A portrait of my daughter every day in 2014

She had her annual follow up to check on her kidneys today and I’m happy to say she was cleared and discharged as a patient. She is now only a patient for her heart at the children’s hospital. Frankly it really makes me wonder if she ever needed all of the tests and antibiotics, but there comes a point where you have a health compromised child where you have to trust their judgment.

She did so well today, she didn’t even want to leave when it was time to go, I’m so proud of her.

She slept until 10am today(she was up from 2-4 in the middle of the night for some ungodly reason). Then she fell asleep as soon as I got home from work(and woke an hour later). This kids schedule is all sorts of jacked up since I changed mine. I keep hoping she will adjust but it just doesn’t seem to be happening. Even though she’s always woken frequently to nurse, she was a pretty good sleeper before this. Her naps and bedtime were pretty predictable. Now we’re lucky if she gets a nap or is in bed by 10pm. Screwing with a toddlers sleep is mean business.

Some how she picked up the phrase “all night” today, and keeps saying it about everything. As in “tubbie all night”(bath tub), “Booboo all night”(her stuffed jaguar spent the night in the other room apparently), “puggle all night” or “boobie all night”(yes child, it feels like you nurse all night long to me too sometimes). It’s quite entertaining to hear her vocabulary develop, especially when it sounds totally random and semi inappropriate.

Lately her language skills have grown immensely. There are certain words I ask her to say repeatedly because I love the way she says them, like P-aide(parade), boo mankie(blue blankie) and halp(help).

I’ve been slowly working on painting over all of the bold wall colors through out our house. I’ve been covering the burnt sienna in the hallway lately and she’s been helping. For some reason painting the walls with my two year old really makes this feel like our home. Watching her paint “doggies” on our walls is strangely heartwarming. Although I keep emphasizing that this is the only time she can ever paint on the wall.

She’s on a hefty dose of antibiotics right now, which she hates. So I’ve taken to bribing her with m&m’s. She gets one m&m for each time she has to take the antibiotic. It’s working surprisingly well and she doesn’t even ask for more then one.

When we go to a store she finds countless toys she would like to take home. I let her play with them for a bit and then tell her they have to stay at the store with their friends. She very cooperatively puts the toy(usually a dog of some sort) back and says “buh bye doggie”.

She tells me when she’s happy lately. Out of nowhere she will point to herself and say happy. It’s insanely adorable and melts my heart.

She dresses herself more and more, hence the footwear pictured. She’s yet to master putting on shirts but everything waist down is cake.

She slept in until 9:45 this morning. And fell asleep as soon as I got home from work. We will see how this whole 5:30 bedtime pans out.
